There are a number of parts to the pre-course work, they are set out briefly here, fuller details will be provided when you book. If you need further clarification prior to booking, contact me.

• 3 pre-course questions, your answers to which you will use during the course, two of the questions feed in to the one to one interviews.
• Take one item (a page heading) from the FDP course manual that interests you and criticise it, suggesting your own improvements and or additions. This will be circulated to the other participants. The page/pages you decide to work on must be agreeed with me in advance to avoid duplication with other participants.
• Preparation of a session that you run, this is a tool and technique session, it lasts 20 minutes. The tool and technique must be agreed with me in advance so that I can plan for a range of tools and techniques to be covered. The debrief focuses both on your facilitation and also the tool and technique itself. You will be paired up with another participant who will sit out of your practice and act as your observer. You will discuss and agree with them the sort of areas you want them to focus on in their observation and they will aslo provide general observation to you on your facilitation. Their role is similar to mine during the practice sessions in the FDP. I will liaise with them and support them in their observations. You will provide the same role to another participant with their practice.

• Preparation of a session that you run on a focus again agreed with me in advance. The focus here will be primarily on your facilitation and the session will be structured in such a way that is is more about facilitation and less about content or structure. In this session you will be paired up again with someone who will act as your observer. In advance you will discuss what you want them to pay particular attention to. This person will sit out of your practice in a similar way that I did on the FDP and will then feedback after the participants. I will liaise with them about their observation and feedback. You will perform the same service for a different person.
• You will read and review in writing a particular book on facilitation that you have interest in. This review will be distributed to each participant so that you all build up a library of reviews. Your review will be available to other participants on other PGPs as will theirs to you. I will provide guidance on how you might go about this if you want it. Your review may range from a description of what the book covers to a critique of its place in the field of facilitation literature.
